新型コロナウイルス感染防止のためにマスクが必需品ですね。
私ももちろんマスクしていますが、眼鏡もしているので、どうしても曇ってしまいます。
そんな時にたまたま見つけたこの曇り止めは最高に優秀です！

さて、今日は、Topic-timeで習った、英語学習者によくある間違い、「Everyone doesn’t ～」について取り上げていきます。
「よくある間違い」とか他人事の様に言っていますが、私も間違ったというのは内緒です。
それでは行ってみましょう！

everyoneの意味
そもそものevery oneの意味をチェックしておきます。
everyone：みんな、だれでも、全員
注意点としては、「みんな」「全員」と言っておきながら、述語は単数形のisや三単現のsが付くなど、単数扱いとなる点です。
例えば、
Everyone is excited.
Everyone reads comic books.
などです。
Everyone doesn’t ～とは言えない？
続いては今日の本題です。
Tpoic-timeでは、毎回お題を出されて、そのお題に対してスピーチを行い、そして、スピーチ終了後に、間違った表現をネイテイブがひとつひとつチェックして訂正してくれます。
今回は、「クリスマス」がお題でスピーチを行いました。
（スピーチの内容は後半に記載しています。）
そのスピーチの中で
「Everyone doesn’t want to work so hard.」って言ってしまったんです。
スピーチが終わった後に、いろいろと細かなところ、例えば時制などを直されながら、この「Everyone doesn’t ～」の部分でいろいろと説明してくれました。
その講師によると、ネイテイブ的には「Everyone doesn’t」は相当な違和感があるそうです。
レッスン後に検索してみましたが、ネイテイブが「Everyone doesn’t」は間違いだって指摘している動画もありました。
日本人的には、「みんな～しない」みたいな意味で捉えていますが、ネイテイブ的には「誰も～しない」つまり「ゼロ人」と捉えるようです。
これを踏まえて、正しい英文に変換してみます。
Everyone doesn’t を正しい英文に変換する
繰り返しになりますが、まとめると
・日本人的発想：みんな～しない→「Everyone doesn’t～」とついつい言いたくなる
・ネイテイブ的発想：誰も～しない→「No one～.」
こうなります。
これを踏まえて、私の英文を直すと
・Everyone doesn’t want to work so hard.
→ No one wants to work so hard.
となります。
これに慣れるためのエクササイズがレッスン中で何度も行われました（笑）
- Everyone doesn’t walk on the moon.
→ No one walks on the moon. - Everyone doesn’t drink and drive.
→ No one drinks and drives
そして最終的に次の例文が生み出されました！ - No one wants COVID!

今日のショートスピーチ
先程も書きましたが、今回のお題は「Christmas」です。
これについて、即座に話したのが次の内容です。
まずは私が話したものです↓

we are sometimes christian, sometimes buddhists so in dec we celebrate christmas then after a few days we celebrate new years by going to the shrine so for us it’s not a religious event it’s just eating cake or giving presents TO each other.
